children taking part in a Choices Mentoring education programme

OUR STORY

Since 2020, Choices Mentoring has been supporting our community members in a variety of ways. Children and young people struggling with mental health rose during the pandemic due to not being in education. We delivered targeted mentoring sessions giving children and young people referred to Choices a chance to take part while others were at home. This had an impact for the young person and their community.

Choices will sign post young people to further activities or partners such as Reading FC Community Trust. We aim to challenge the normalisation of violent behavior amongst some young people, therefore breaking the cycle of violence within communities. We will support inclusion, helping children with anxiety, low self-esteem, confidence and self-belief. Many students can change their perspective of school and reengage after sessions out of a school environment. At Choices young people will have a chosen mentor to plan their specific programme, we will respond to pupils’ needs and help them overcome potential barriers.

I have built up 20 years experience working at Reading FC Community Trust. During this time I have supported many young people to gain confidence, raise their self esteem and build a sense of self worth. I'm extremely proud of the work we have done with young people and many of them are now thriving in the local community.
